Social Meets, Hilary term 2010

The club meets in Oxford on Wednesday meetings; this term, unless otherwise specified, at the Angel and Greyhound pub, the Plain, from about 9.00.

At some meetings there will be a short talk about caving, at others general chat, beer and socialising. These meetings are also where you sign up for Caving trips.

New members are always welcome. Contact anyone on the Committee or just turn up to a meeting. See also how to subscribe to the OUCC email lists.

Film Night: The theme is cave exploration – going where nobody has gone before. Doors open 7:45 pm First showing starts 8:00 pm. Present plan is to watch (On the big screen):

  1. Cave of the witches eye (30 mins). An OUCC classic about an OUCC expedition to the Picos.
  2. Caught between a Rock and a Hard Place (45 mins). International award winning film, mostly filmed by OUCCs Tim Guilford about exploration of new cave passages in Ogof Draenen, South Wales.
  3. Blue Feet (5 mins). A Tim Guilford caving short about exploration of a crystal cave in Uzbekistan.

For the die hard film buffs there will be the option to watch more films afterwards from our caving collection (e.g. Caves of Glass about icy caves in Austria, Hollow Mountain of Mulu about caving in huge caverns in Indonesia, First Light another OUCC classic about caving in Spain). There will be ice cream, soft drinks and beer, but if you intend to drink lots of beer, please bring some with you.

Céilidh: Our wonderful friends over at OUMC have set up a night of inter-club revelry!

There'll be a few other societies (windsurfing, hiking and mountaineering) so it should be a big night - feel free to bring along other guests too. There are only 80 tickets so book a.s.a.p! To confirm a place, pidge-post a cheque written out to OUMC (preferably) or cash in an envelope, to Iona Naismith at Oriel College; along with your name & college so she can post back your ticket(s). (If you want several tickets, just write a larger cheque!).
